Myelophone

The myelophone (from the Greek mielo "brain" + background "sound, voice, noise") is a fictional device, a device for reading thoughts in the works of Kir Bulychev and their film adaptations.

After the release of the children's film "Guest from the Future" (1985), in which the plot is connected with the abduction of this device by space pirates from Alice Selezneva, the device became widely known, and one of the popular phrases of the film was "Alice, I have a mielophone!".

Having failed to find a clear description of the device in Bulychev's books, the authors of the film "Guest from the Future" considered different versions of its appearance, and director Pavel Arsenov settled on the idea of a "crystal myelophone"[4]. In the film, the myelophone looks like a small black rectangular camera case with a narrow strap, inside of which there is a transparent crystal consisting of several segments that acts as an "amplifier" of thoughts. Crystal one is a large colorless hyperselenite, which is very rare in nature and was, according to Bulychev, discovered only on the asteroid Vlasta.

Structurally, the device is an electronic amplifier with a receiver. At the moment of receiving and transmitting thoughts, the crystal shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow and emits an iridescent melodious sound.

According to the film, it was developed in the laboratory of Professor Seleznev for use in scientific and medical purposes. In "One Hundred years ahead" it is not said where it was developed, but it is mentioned that, with the exception of the crystal, it is of no interest from the point of view of technology.
