AKALI


A FREE KILLER
Since ancient times, Ionia has been known as a land of wild magic, where powerful spirits and distinctive peoples peacefully coexisted with each other. However, sometimes this idyll was disrupted, and considerable efforts were required to restore harmony.

The Kinku Order took care of maintaining the sacred balance in Ionia. The faithful novices of the order travel through the material world and the realm of spirits, eliminating the causes of discord, if necessary– by force. Akali belongs to them, the daughter of Mayume Joman, an aunt known as the Fist of the Shadow. Mayume and her husband and colleague Tano raised Akali in the bosom of the Kinku order under the supervision of the great master of Kuse, the Eye of Twilight.

When her parents were on a mission, Akali was looked after by other members of the order, who became her family. Kennen, the Heart of the Storm, worked with the girl for hours on end: he taught her how to throw shuriken and showed her that speed and agility can be more important than brute force. Akali was quick-witted and grasped everything on the fly. It was clear that she would follow in her parents' footsteps and, together with Shen, the son of the great master, would lead a new generation of balance guards in Ionia.

However, equilibrium is a very delicate matter. The day came when there was a split in the order.

Returning from exile, Zed defied Master Kusa and came to power in a bloody coup. Akali fled east, into the mountains, along with Mayume, Shen, Kennen, and a handful of loyal people. Unfortunately, Tano wasn't with them.

Zed almost managed to turn Kinku into a ruthless Order of Shadow, but the new Eye of twilight, Shen– did not give up. He decided to revive the three fundamental principles of the Kinku Order: pure impartiality ("Stargazing"), passing judgment ("Following the Sun"), and eliminating threats to balance ("Pruning the branches of the World Tree"). And although there were few adepts of the order left, they could educate newcomers and increase the number of Kinku followers.

When Akali turned fourteen, she began her "adult" education in the order.

She tried her best and eventually became an unsurpassed fighter. Akali was proficient with kama and kunai, a battle sickle and throwing dagger. Akali, the only one of all the students who did not possess the magical gift, managed to prove that she would become a worthy successor to her mother. When the time came, Mayum gave her the honorary title, and she began to train young novices.

However, Akali couldn't help but notice what was happening around her, and her soul was in turmoil. Although Kinku and the Order of the Shadow formed a shaky alliance against the Noxians, as soon as they invaded Ionia, Akali saw that her homeland was suffering. "Pruning the branches of the world tree" meant eliminating all those who threatened the sacred balance... however, Shen always called for restraint.

He was limiting her. Yes, mantras and meditations could calm the spirit, but they could not defeat the enemies. Children's independence turned into an open protest. Akali argued with Shen, disobeyed him, and dealt with Ionia's enemies in her own way.

She gathered all her companions and declared that the Kinku order would never achieve anything by talking about spiritual balance and patience. Ionians were dying in the material world, and it was this world that Akali was going to protect. She was trained as a murderer, and she will be a murderer. She no longer needed the Order.

Shen let Akali go without a fight, realizing that the path she had chosen was the path of a loner. Maybe someday he would bring her back, but the decision had to be Akali's.
