Chewbacca

Chewbacca (short for Chewie) is a male Wookiee who was known as a talented pilot and mechanic. During the time of the Galactic Empire, Kashyyyk was enslaved, and Chewbacca, among other Wookiees, was sent as a slave to the mines. At the same time, Han Solo, who could not stand slavery, studied at the Academy. When Solo saw the guards bullying Wookiees and, in particular, Chewbacca, the Corellian could not bear it and saved the Wookiee, for which he was kicked out of the Academy. Han Solo later became Chewbacca's best friend. Chewbacca owed Han a "life debt."

Together with Han Solo, Chewbacca piloted the ship the Millennium Falcon, on which Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and two droids traveled to Alderaan.
