BB-8

BB-8 ("BeBe-Eight" or "Bibi-eight") is an astromechanical droid of the BB series, one of the main characters of the Star Wars universe in the films "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi". It was created thirty years after the Battle of Endor.

BB-8 has a spherical shape with a dome-shaped head freely moving around the body, which is similar to the shape of the upper body of the R2 series robots. The main color is white, there are inserts of orange and silver colors, as well as a black eyepiece on the head. It is known that the robot belongs to a Resistance pilot named Dameron and, like R2D2, is placed in a nest for T-70 "X-wing" fighter droids. BB-8 has a cute appearance, as well as the ability to get to know people. According to the creators, BB-8 is well aware that its qualities can influence people, and uses it. Like the R2D2, it uses different sounds to communicate, but it looks more talkative and emotional than its older predecessor. The voice of BB-8 in the film was embodied by comedians Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz, listed in the credits as "BB-8 voice consultants". The final sound was created by J. J. Abrams, who used an app with sound effects on his iPad. Due to its shape, the droid is able to move quite quickly on any surface and in any direction.

Every droid in the Star Wars universe has an identity protocol, and BB-8 is no exception. He is capable of independent decision-making, as well as some improvisation and emotional expression. Poe Dameron perceives him not as an astromechanic, but rather as a person, and shares information about his life with him.
