Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia (orig. Geralt z Rivii) is the main character of the literary saga and the protagonist of subsequent games, a witcher, a professional monster hunter, and one of the best swordsmen in the North.

Has a romantic interest in two enchantresses: Yennefer and Triss. Besides the witchers from the School of the Wolf, his best friends are the bard Buttercup, the dwarf Zoltan Khivai and the supreme vampire Emiel Regis.

Geralt has a very remarkable, albeit extremely obnoxious character. The years spent on the highway among various kinds and degrees of marginal personalities, wandering around the world, countless fights and scrapes have developed in Geralt a number of qualities that during his adventures allowed him to survive and emerge a relative winner from any situation. The main character traits of the witcher are restraint, straightforwardness, honesty, taciturnity, eloquence, curiosity, prudence, secrecy, moderation in everything and the ability not to lose self-control in any situation and adjust to any conditions due to "innate opportunism." Geralt is also experienced and practical, unpretentious and independent. In addition, he is distinguished by the strongest humanism, although he has no illusions about the world and is not naive. The Witcher is quick-witted, intelligent and, as a rule, able to make informed and thoughtful decisions. Despite his penchant for vagrancy and inability to live in one place for a long time, which is related to both character traits and lifestyle, Geralt highly values home and amenities, not giving them up whenever possible. Nevertheless, despite all his foresight and a certain degree of wisdom, Geralt is sharp-tongued, rude, sarcastic and generally has a specific sense of humor.

"... straight as a spear..."
— Buttercup

To create a reputation as an invincible monster hunter and to avoid the weaknesses associated with showing feelings, Geralt developed the habit of not showing any emotions, being secretive, looking completely unperturbed, speaking rarely and in a monotone voice. He justifies his calmness with witcher mutations, which supposedly "burn out" the emotions of a candidate for a monster hunter. In addition, in his decisions, Geralt hides behind a non—existent witcher's code, which he invented for himself, for about the same reason that he calls himself a native of Rivia - people are more willing to trust their lives and their wallets to a person who obeys a certain creed. It should be noted that although witchers do not have a common "witcher code", they all obey several unspoken rules: do not use long-range weapons, do not charge in advance, do not pay attention to the customer, do not take contracts on people, etc. Despite the lack of a systematic set of rules, Geralt nevertheless obeys a fairly extensive number of his own moral norms and attitudes.

"... stuffed with principles, like a fox fur coat with fleas..."
— Buttercup

Trying not to get into any scrapes and stick to neutrality in everything, Geralt, however, often finds himself between two fires and is forced to choose a side in the brewing clashes. In general, Geralt avoids any conflicts, and if a fight is brewing, the witcher, as a rule, does everything to avoid bloodshed. After all, those who come together in battle with a White Wolf, in the vast majority of cases, do not survive. Nevertheless, having a keen sense of justice and compassion for people, Geralt often stands up for the weak and disadvantaged, which often goes sideways to himself.
