Mandrake

Creatures known as mandrakes roam the dark corners of intricate dimensions. These evil creatures cause fear even among other dark Eldar, because they can break into reality directly from someone else's shadow, thrusting icy claws and fangs into warm flesh with a hiss. Forbidden runes writhe on their ink-colored skin, and their faces are constantly changing, sometimes forming lifeless masks, then revealing a gaping wound full of thin and sharp teeth. Mandrakes exist simultaneously in reality and in the cursed otherworld, and fighting them is like fighting an animated shadow, since they are not completely real.

The origin of mandrakes is shrouded in mystery. Some claim that the mandrakes are descended from the Eldar, who entered into a hideous alliance with unclean entities at the peak of the decadence of the ancient Eldar empire. Others say that the mysterious hunters come from a forbidden cult that escaped from Falling into the shadows and returned with something alien. Younger Dark Eldar call mandrakes "crawlers", whispering that they are able to jump from shadow to shadow and crawl out of reflections into reality. They believe that mandrakes are an animated anti—light. And they're right about a lot of things.
