The Emperor of Mankind

The Emperor of Mankind, also known as the Lord of Mankind, the God-Emperor, or simply the Emperor, is the founder and ruler of the Imperium.

Thousands of years ago, the Lord of Mankind, immortal and endowed with divine powers, together with the primarchs he created, led a Great Crusade and united the disparate human planets into the Imperium. During the Horus Heresy, the Emperor suffered mortal wounds and has not left the Golden Throne on Terra since. He has almost lost the ability to communicate with his subjects, but his spirit and will continue to exist and support the Astronomicon. The Emperor is fighting the Chaos gods in the warp, preventing their invasions of the material world and protecting humanity on all sides of the galaxy.

The official coat of arms of the Emperor and the Imperium is the aquila. The Imperial Cult, the religion of the Imperium, supported by the Ecclesiarchy, is built around the figure of the Lord of Mankind as a living deity; believers throughout the Imperium turn their prayers to him. The cult of the Mechanicus venerates him as the "Omnissiah," the Machine God.
