Cyclops (X-Men)

Cyclops is a mutant capable of projecting powerful ruby-red rays of destructive force from his eyes. The rays derive their power from absorbing ambient energy, especially sunlight; Cyclops' cells constantly absorb solar and other energy and transfer it to his eyes, which in turn serve as apertures projecting extra-dimensional non-Einstein particles in the form of a ray (in some stories, this means that his powers do not work when he is cut off from sunlight). Contrary to popular misconceptions, Scott's optical rays do not project heat.; Rather, the beam produces pressure capable of hitting and then, if desired, destroying objects (although this force has sometimes been distorted in comics and other formats). These rays were also shown reflecting or bouncing off certain surfaces, such as highly reflective metal (which was also inconsistently depicted at times). Through this use of his power, Scott ensured his and his brother's survival when their parachute failed, softening the ground beneath them. In the current versions of the comics, it is said that the Cyclops' eyes are a kind of portal to the dimension where this energy is generated.
