Ari is a nine-tailed fox

Ari is a free Vastai who has been linked to the secret forces of Runeterra since birth. She uses her rebellious natural magic to form balls of pure, raw energy, which she juggles with unprecedented dexterity. Before draining the life force from the victim, Ari likes to play with the prey, manipulating its emotions. A predator by nature, Ari is no stranger to compassion, because she experiences fragments of the memories of each of the absorbed souls.
Ari remembers nothing about her origin and family — she was abandoned in the snowy forests of northern Ionia when she was very young. All she had left from the past were a couple of identical gems. Hunger led the girl to a pack of ice foxes: she joined them right during the hunt, and when the hunt was over, the animals accepted Ari into their pack. Without a mentor to teach her the basics of vastaya magic, Ari simply followed her instincts. She learned how to absorb magic from the world around her and throw destructive balls; and also improve her reflexes with magic in order to masterfully overtake and kill her prey. If she could get close to a deer, she could plunge it into a state of such deep serenity that the animal would not move, even when Ari sank her teeth into its flesh.

The fox's first encounter with humans occurred when a group of foreign soldiers camped near its lair. The behavior of the people amazed Ari, and she began to watch them curiously from afar. Her attention was drawn to a hunter who, unlike his spendthrift companions, found a use for every part of the animals he killed, just as Ari and her fox family did.

Suddenly, an arrow pierced the hunter, and Ari physically felt his life flowing out. Without interfering in the human battle, she only instinctively absorbed the power that was leaving the hunter's body — and saw fragments of his memories. His beloved, who died in battle; his children from the amazing land of iron and stone. Ari realized that she could change his emotions, from fear and grief to joy, and as he died, he saw the image she had created of a sunlit meadow.

Ari had never felt so alive as when she absorbed the hunter's life. Delighted with the new sensations, she decided to be closer to people from now on... and she began to wander around Ionia in search of new victims. She liked to play with the prey, shuffling its emotions before absorbing the life force. Ari filled the victims' minds with beautiful images, passionate desires, and sometimes with obsessions full of indescribable grief.

She got drunk on other people's memories and happily plunged into other people's lives with her head. Through the eyes of her victims, Ari saw them swearing an oath of allegiance in the temple of the shadow; making offerings to the incarnation of the sun god; meeting the Vastaya tribe, who speak only the language of songs; admiring the mountain landscapes she had never seen. Plunging into tantalizing memories over and over again, Ari relived the joyful moments of other people's lives with bated breath and cried as she watched the Noxian invaders destroy entire villages in Ionia.

Imagine her surprise when Ari learned from other people's memories the legend of a sinister demon in the form of a fox... With each successive victim whose life force she absorbed, the wild vastaya identified herself more and more with humans. At a certain point, Ari began to feel half human and guilty for ending so many lives. She became afraid that the myths about the demonic fox were true—and she was just a cruel, inhuman monster. But if Ari skipped hunting and didn't feed on other people's emotions for too long, her powers would melt away, and vastaya would have to look for a new victim willy-nilly in order not to die herself.

Ari was looking for a way to curb her essence, and tried to control herself by absorbing only particles of her life force. Enough to bring her a couple of memories, but not kill the victim. For a while she succeeded, but the eternal hunger tormented her more and more, and one day thirst turned out to be stronger than reason. Then an unbridled predator woke up inside Ari, and she drank the dreams of an entire village on the coast.

Tormented by guilt, Ari couldn't forgive herself. The sadness took root deep into her soul and made her think about the meaning of her own existence. In an effort to curb her unbearable hunger, she left the human world and found solitude in the heart of the forest, in the darkness of underground caves. The killing stopped. Years passed, and Ari returned to the world changed. Now she was ready to see all facets of life—with her own eyes. Sometimes a fox takes a few sips from the power of other people, but no longer consumes life entirely. The twin gems remained the only clue to her past, and Ari took it up, going in search of her own kind. She would no longer rely on other people's memories and borrowed dreams. From now on, it's just her life.
