Angel



The angels (Greek. angelos — "messenger, messenger") are disembodied spirits with intelligence and free will, who consciously chose the path of service. Traditionally, an angel is depicted as an anthropomorphic creature with wings on its back.

The angelic world was created before the creation of the visible world (Gen. 1:1). Initially, they were all created by the good. Subsequently, some of them "abused their freedom of choice" and fell away from God. Other angels remained faithful to their Creator and their original purpose. After that, the fallen angels were cast down from heaven.

Angelic powers are divided into hierarchical degrees. The Abrahamic religions distinguish nine such degrees or orders: Seraphim (Isa.6:2), Cherubim (Ezek.10:1), Thrones (Col.1:16); Dominions (Col.1:16), Powers (Rom.8:38), Authorities (Col. 1:16); The Beginnings (Rom. 8:38), the Archangels (Jude.1:9), the Angels (Rom. 8:38). Since the name "Angel" means "Messenger", it applies to representatives not only of the lower hierarchical degrees, but also of any, even higher ones.

In addition to the fact that angels differ from each other in the degree of power and perfection, their difference is seen in the areas of activity related to areas of personal responsibility. Thus, the Scripture tells about the Angel of waters: "And I heard the Angel of waters" (Revelation 16:5), the Angel of fire: "An angel having power over fire" (Revelation 14:18), angels who protect kingdoms, nations, and churches. Finally, at Baptism, every Christian is given a special guardian angel. They carry out their service not mechanically, but meaningfully and creatively.

The conditioning of angels by space and time differs from the conditioning that is typical for representatives of the visible world. Because of this, they can all move from one area of the universe to another at lightning speed. However, they are still time-dependent and cannot be present in two different places at the same time. It is believed that due to the fact that angels are disembodied spirits, they are not subject to a threefold dimension.

Angels are disembodied. However, their disembodyness is not absolute, because such a feature is characteristic only of God. It is believed that when angels appear in front of people in a visible way, they do not reveal their personal bodies, but the result of a special action, by virtue of which a person sees them as if they were material.

Being created by immortals, angels will never die. Moreover, once they have made their moral choice and are supported in their activities by God's grace, they will never sin.
