The Pillars of Argonate

The Pillars of Argonath is a monument consisting of two huge statues carved into the rocks and depicting Isildur and Anarion, standing on both sides of the Anduin River on the northern approaches to Nen Khitoel.

The figures were made around 1240 of the Third Age by order of King Romendakil II to mark the northern border of Gondor, although by the time of the passage of the Argonath by the Fellowship of the Ring on February 25, 3019 of the Third Age, Gondor had greatly decreased in size.

Each of the figures was a statue, crowned with a crown and helmet, with a battle axe in his right hand. His left hand was raised in a gesture of defiance to the enemies of Gondor.

Also known as the Gate of Kings and Pillars of Kings.
