Arwen

Arwen, also known as Undomiel (Sind. Evening Star) is an elf, daughter of Elrond and Celebrian, sister of Elladan and Elrohir, wife of Aragorn and mother of Eldarion.
On her father's side, Arwen is the granddaughter of the navigator Earendil, son of Tuor of the House of Hador, and Elving, daughter of Dior, son of Beren of the House of Beor and Luthien, daughter of Thingol and Melian. On her mother's side, she is the granddaughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, the daughter of Finarfin, that is, she belongs to the descendants of the House of Finwe. She is also a distant relative of Aragorn, the 39th descendant of Isildur, son of Elendil, descendant of Elros, the first king of Numenor and uncle of Arwen.

Thus, Arwen is 1/32 Maiar, 6/32 Edain– and 25/32 Eldar.

In letter No. 181, J. R. R. Tolkien writes:

"I consider the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen to be the most important of the Applications. This is an integral part of the story, even though it could not be placed in the main narrative without destroying its structure. It is conceived as "hobbit-centric," that is, first of all, as a story about the ennobling (or sanctification) of the humble and small."

In Sindarin, the name "Arwen" means "queen" from "ar" – "royal" and "wen" – "maiden". Her other name, Undomiel– means "Twilight Star" or "Evening Star." The "ndu" element means "sunset". The element "domi" means "twilight". The "el" element is a "star". Arwen was so named because of her beauty and because she lived during the years of the twilight of the Elves in Middle-earth.

Arwen grew up in Lothlorien. In 2951 CE, Arwen returned to Rivendell and met with a twenty-year-old Aragorn, who initially mistook her for Luthien, who appeared to him. Aragorn immediately fell in love with the girl, and Elrond, who learned of his feelings, advised Dunadan not to commit his fate to Arwen, as this would have doomed her to a sad separation from her father, because she would have to give up the immortality granted to the elves and the opportunity to sail to Valinor to her people. Shortly after this conversation, Aragorn left Imladris and went on a long journey, opposing Sauron with Gandalf.

Twenty-nine years later (2980 A.D.), Arwen and Aragorn met again in Lorien, where Galadriel invited her. When Arwen saw Aragorn again, in the prime of his life, resembling one of the lords of the Eldar, she fell in love with him. Over the next year, they spent their evenings walking hand in hand around Lorien. Finally, it was time to part ways, and in the evening, on the hill of Kerin Amroth, they swore allegiance to each other. When Elrond decided on their union, he said that his daughter should not sacrifice the gift of her life to marry someone who was not yet the king of Gondor and Arnor.

In the following years, Sauron's power increased and Argorn and Arwen rarely had to see each other. Nevertheless, she always held out hope and waited for him.

In 3009 CE, Elrond sent for Arwen to Lothlorien and she returned to Imladris. Soon, in October 3018 A.D., Aragorn returned to Rivendell, bringing with him the Hobbits, one of whom had the One Ring of Sauron. At the council of Elrond, it was decided to destroy the Ring, and Aragorn also joined the group that intended to carry out this mission (although he intended to break away from the group and come to the aid of Gondor). All this time, while the War of the Ring was going on, Arwen stayed in Imladris and mentally watched over Aragorn, keeping hope alive and embroidering the great royal banner of Elendil for him. Arwen sent this banner to her lover along with the Dunedain of the north, also advising Aragorn to pay attention to the threat from the sea and walk the Paths of the Dead.

After the War of the Ring and the overthrow of Sauron, on May 1, 3019 A.D., Aragorn was crowned king of Gondor by Elessar and Arwen and Elrond set out from Imladris. On May 20, Elrond and Arwen arrived in Lothlorien, where they stayed until the 27th. On June 14, Elladan and Elrohir met Arwen's escort and escorted him to Edoras. Finally, on the day of Summer's Gate, Arwen arrived in Minas Tirith and married Aragorn.

After the festivities, it was time for the Keepers to return home, and Frodo the hobbit decided to say goodbye to Aragon. He and Arwen were sitting by the fountain by the White Tree, and the girl was singing to him a beautiful elven song. Aragorn said it would be best if they all set off in seven days, when it was time to leave for Edoras for Theoden's funeral. Frodo agreed, complaining that he was homesick and wanted to return as soon as possible. Aragorn replied that the entire western region was now his home for his feat, and Arwen said:

"I have a gift for you. For I am the daughter of Elrond. I will not go with him now that he is leaving for the Harbor; I have chosen Luthien's fate, and my choice, like hers, is bitter and sweet. But you can go instead, Ringmaster, when the time comes, and if you wish it. If your pain makes you sad and the memory of your burden weighs you down, you can sail to the West, where all your wounds and pain will disappear. Wear this in memory of Elessar and the Elven Star, whose fate was intertwined with yours."
With these words, Arwen took a white stone on a silver chain from her neck and put it on Frodo's neck, adding that it would help the hobbit when he was tormented by memories of fear and darkness.
On July 19, the funeral procession with Theoden's body set off from Minas Tirith. On August 10, Theoden's funeral took place, after which Arwen remained in Edoras to await Aragorn's return. There Arwen said goodbye to her brothers and went to the mountains, so that no one saw, she said goodbye to her father for a long time; their parting was bitter for centuries.

Arwen and Aragorn lived happily for 120 years and had a son, Eldarion, and several daughters. In 120 C.E., Aragorn died, and Arwen, who chose the mortal realm, said goodbye to her children and went to Rivendell Lothlorien, which was deserted after the inhabitants left. Her destiny was to die as a mortal, and when the Mallorns began to fall, before spring (121 C. E.), Arwen rested on Kerin Amroth; there was her green grave until the world changed, and all the days of her life were not completely forgotten by future generations of people, and the Elanors and Nifred They haven't stopped blooming east of the Sea.
