Brienne of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth, also known by the nicknames Tarth Maiden and Brienne the Pretty, is one of the main characters in Game of Thrones, the only daughter and heir of Lord Selwyn of Tarth. Brienne, being an ugly, but very large and strong woman, has been interested in martial arts since childhood and dreamed of becoming a knight. When Renly Baratheon declared himself king and joined the war, Brienne joined the campaign and quickly took her place next to the king. Although the patriarchal society of the Westerosi South treats her with bewilderment and contempt, Brienne feels confident in armor and with a sword in her hand.

Brienne was considered extremely ugly by others, and she was used to hearing comments about her ugliness. She has a flat face with rough features, an excessively wide mouth, crooked protruding teeth, a broken nose more than once; the skin on her face and arms is covered with freckles, and her hair is "straw-colored." Catelyn Stark, seeing her for the first time, was filled with pity — "is there a more unhappy creature in the world than an ugly woman?"
