Konrad Curze (in other sources, Konrad Kurtz), the "Night Ghost", is one of the twenty primarchs created by the Emperor of Mankind. Like his genetic brother, Primarch Sanguinius, Curze possessed the ability to see the future. The Night Wraith and the Great Angel were powerful oracle psykers.

Nicknamed the Night Ghost by the people of his homeworld of Nostramo, Conrad Curze had a dark reputation from his earliest days. Having grown up on the streets of a city immersed in night, where criminals ruled and depraved gentlemen enjoyed a beautiful life, Curze carried out his own bloody justice. The Night Ghost brought order to Nostramo, establishing the power of terror over tyrants and criminals. When the Emperor finally arrived, Curze already foresaw his life, his role as primarch, and his imminent demise. His mind has never been left with dark visions of horrors that will soon overwhelm the galaxy.

After taking command of the VIII Legion, which he named the Night Lords, Curze set about spreading his exceptionally grandiose ideas of order and justice throughout the galaxy. World after world surrendered to the Night Ghost's bloody campaigns of conquest. The primarch was so feared that the mere mention of his arrival was often enough to quell an uprising and eliminate disobedience. A recruitment drive from the strongest members of the Nostramo population has flooded the legion's ranks with assassins as brutal as their primarch. His conquests were increasingly aimed not at getting rid of prejudices about the horrors of the Era of Strife, but at shedding the blood of those who, in his opinion, deserved it. Meanwhile, the shocked Imperium of Humanity became aware of the Warmaster's betrayal. Konrad Curze and his legion were already essentially renegades and teetered on the verge of being condemned by the highest-ranking officials of the Emperor's domain.

The Night Wraith and his gloomy family have completely compromised themselves by revealing their betrayal in the Isstvan V landing zone. The Night Lords' thirst for justice was tragically misjudged when, on the Emperor's orders, they landed in the second wave of legions tasked with bringing the Sons of Horus, the Death Guard, the World Eaters, and the Emperor's Children to justice for their treachery. Curze had already chosen Warmaster Horus, and his fierce anger was directed not at the traitors, but at his own brothers and their legions. In the middle of the unfolding massacre, at the very peak of the massacre, Konrad Curze came face to face with his hated brother Corax from the Raven Guard, and it was a twist of fate that death spared another son of the Emperor on the cursed land of Isstvan V.
