Melisandre

Melisandre is a priestess of R'hlor, a shadow caster from Asshai, advisor and confidante of Stannis Baratheon. Melisandre joined Stannis Baratheon, proclaiming him the reborn Azor Ahai, the messiah of Chlorianism, who must defeat the Great Other. Many in Stannis' entourage adopted the new faith, and Stannis himself, although he did not believe in any gods, obeyed Melisandre, believing that her very real magical power would help him take the Iron Throne. Under Melisandre's influence, Stannis burned the statues of the Seven in the Dragonstone Sept and placed the fiery heart of R'hllor on his banner.
