In all the deeds of Melkor Morgoth in Arda, in his vast labors and intricacies, Sauron participated and was inferior to his master in evil only because he served another for a long time, and not himself. But years later, he rose up like the shadow of Morgoth, and the ghost of his malice, and followed him along the same destructive path into the Void.

Sauron is one of the first Maiar to defect to Melkor. He was his right-hand man, the most powerful and loyal of the servants of the Lord of Darkness. After Melkor's defeat, he himself became the Dark Lord and the last incarnation of Evil in Arda.

Before the fall, he was a master in the retinue of the Shaft-Craftsman, Aule. Sauron was for a long time a spy of Melkor among the Valar, commander-in-chief of the garrison of the fortress of Angband and the governor of the Dark Lord in his stronghold. In the First Epoch, Tol Sirion captured the fortress of the elves, but was defeated in a battle with Juan and was forced to flee. At the end of the age, after Melkor's defeat in the war with the Valar, Sauron repented, but did not appear at the trial and soon returned to evil. In the Second Age, Sauron became the second Dark Lord and set out to enslave elves, humans, and dwarves. To gain power, Sauron deceived the blacksmiths of the elves, who, according to his plan, forged the Rings of Power, while Sauron himself secretly created a Single Ring to control the rest of the Rings and their wearers. With the help of cunning, Sauron managed to destroy the greatest of the human kingdoms, Numenor, turning most of the Numenorians to evil. Due to the preservation of the soul's powers in a Single Ring, he did not die during the death of Numenor and in the War of the Last Alliance. During the Third Age, Sauron weakened his enemies, the Dunedain people, eventually gaining enough power to return and continue his attempts to become a ruler in Middle-earth.
