Spirited away

Gone with the Ghosts (Japanese: Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) is a full—length anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, shot in 2001. It became the most successful film in the history of Japan.

Akio's father, Yuko's mother and their ten-year-old daughter Chihiro move to a new house located somewhere in the hinterland of Japan. Having confused the road to the new house and driving through a strange forest, they come to a dead end: they stop in front of a high wall, in which the entrance is dark. Entering there and following a long dark tunnel, they enter a building that looks like a train station, leaving which they find themselves in an empty town, almost entirely consisting of empty restaurants. There is not a soul anywhere, but by the pleasant smell, the father finds an empty but clearly functioning restaurant, in which he finds a table full of delicacies and a wide variety of dishes. The father and mother stay for a snack, and Chihiro goes to wander around the city. Going out to a large building with the inscription "Abura-ya Baths", she meets a boy Haku, who demands that she immediately run away from here. Dusk is gathering fast and evening is coming, the city is flooded with strange shadows appearing from everywhere. Chihiro rushes to the restaurant where her parents are staying, and is horrified to discover that they have turned into pigs. Terrified, Chihiro runs back to the place where they came from, but now there is not a dry rocky riverbed on the way, but a wide river.

Haku finds Chihiro and helps her: he leads her to the bathing building and explains what is happening. It turns out that Chihiro and his parents have entered a magical world. The owner of the town is the sorceress Yubaba, under her control there are baths and restaurants where gods, ghosts, spirits and other supernatural beings from all over the world come to relax. Yubaba turns everyone except the guests and his employees into animals. To gain hope of saving her parents and returning home, Chihiro, on Haku's advice, must demand a job from Yubaba — according to a long-standing vow, Yubaba cannot refuse such a request to anyone. With the help of new acquaintances, Kamaji's grandfather and the bath attendant Rin, Chihiro manages to get to Yubaba's office and get a job there, and with it a new name. Chihiro's name is Seng now.

Chihiro starts working in the baths, she tries very hard, hoping to help her parents regain their human form and find a way back. One day, in Yubaba's absence, Chihiro witnesses Haku returning from somewhere in the form of a dragon, pursued by a flock of paper birds. Sneaking after Haku into Yubaba's chambers, Chihiro learns that Haku, on Yubaba's orders, stole the enchanted seal from her twin sister Zeniba and is now dying from a curse placed on the seal. With the help of Kamaji's grandfather and a "bitter pie" given earlier by a client, the spirit of rivers, Chihiro destroys the curse and thus saves Haku from death. After that, she decides to go to Zeniba to return the stolen seal and ask for forgiveness and to cure Haku. Chihiro undertakes a train journey in the company of a Faceless ghost-god, whom she let into the baths the day before, as well as the son of Yubaba Bo and the bird-spy, who were turned into a small animal and a small bird by Zeniba. At the same time, Haku, who has come to his senses, forces Yubaba to promise to give Chihiro a chance to disenchant his parents and return to his world if he himself returns his son to Yubaba. Haku goes to Zeniba to get Chihiro and Yubaba's son. Zeniba forgives Haku. Chihiro, Haku, Bo, and the spy bird return to Yubaba's baths together. During the return trip, Chihiro helps Haku remember his real name. After regaining his memories, Haku relieves himself of his duty to serve Yubaba.

Returning to the baths, Chihiro passes the last test — she needs to get to know her parents among the pigs. Chihiro answers correctly that her parents are not among them. After that, the contract signed by Chihiro with Yubaba disappears. Yubaba releases the girl. Haku accompanies Chihiro and warns her not to look back in any case. At parting, he says that he will finish his business and return to the real world, where they will definitely meet.

Returning back to the strange building that looks like a train station, Chihiro meets his father and mother, who do not remember anything about what happened and are sure that they were just walking. The whole family goes through the tunnel again and goes back to the car, which during their absence turns out to be heavily covered with fallen leaves and dusty inside. Surprised by this fact, but not giving it much importance, they leave.
