Today I found out that Charles Dickens was paid for every word. And you know what? Now I don't even get mad at the boring description of one subject on several pages. I would have done the same. Red? Nope. "The color of a drop of blood that has just fallen on snow-white snow. So bright and dark, like a sunset on the horizon of the deserts of Africa." BOOM. Guess who can afford to eat now. Me and my cool friend Charles Dickens.

By contrast, I want to say that Alexandre Dumas received money for every line. Therefore, there are 80% of dialogues in his works, which is more like modernism, but also looks something like this, and it's hilarious.:
"Where are we going?"
- To the city.
"Which city?"
- Paris.
"Are we going to Paris?"
- yes.

Thanks, now I realize that George R.R. Martin is probably just being paid for every character he kills.
